From: Helen Olson Weals Date: 10/18/97 12:10 AM My great grandmother was Anna Maria Belfrage born 1835 in Molla, Sweden. Her father was Carl Johan Belfrage who was the great grandson of Erik Bengt Belfrage who married Anna Maria Gyllenhaal. I have done a lot of research on the Belfrage family of Sweden and their connecting lines and published my ancestoral table in the magazine the Swedish American Genealogist in March 1985. I am very impressed with your web page and would like to hear from others connecting with the Belfrage family. Would be happy to provide any information you desire on my family.

From: Knut Bryn Subject: QUESTION ABOUT CATHRINE MARGRETHE LIND Date: 9/9/97 7:26 AM I see from your ancestor pages that Lars Herman GYLLENHAAL was married with Ellen Juliane RÆDER and that her great grandmother was Cathrine Margrethe LIND born 1759. My first question is: Do you know where she was born or where she lived? Cathrine Margrethe Lind had a sister called Anna Catharina BERNHOFT LIND born 1788, and my second question is: Have you got any idea why she got BERNHOFT in her name? The reason for my questions are that my great great grandfather Thomas BRYN married Susanne LIND (born 1783) in Drammen, Norway. His son, another Thomas Bryn, married Kristine RICHTER, a daughter of Ellen Sophie BERNHOFT born 1795. This my be a coincidence, but if here is a connection I can perhaps give you more information about the ancestors of Cathrine Margrethe LIND's father.
From: Herman Gyllenhaal Date: 8/22/97 2:18 am Hello Ed, I have been around to some coin and medal shops i Stockholm lately, asking them about the medal of Leonard Gyllenhaal. At "Strandbergs" in the banking district of the city, the owner, whom I know since many years, told me two things: The good news was that he ad one copy, good but not perfect. The bad news was that it was a part in a full collection of all the medals of the Swedish Royal Society for Science and thus he could not sell one piece but the lot. And the price was something around $32.000! Some weeks ago I was at another dealer and asked for it. Two days ago I happened to bump into the same shop assistant as last time, when I passed the shop in another errand. He told me that his boss had said, that there might be a chance, that he had a bronze copy of it, in a big collection that he had somewhere. They will come back if they find it, the shop assistant told me. Keep your fingers crossed! Warm regards Herman
From: Allen S. Hoaglund (Ashoag205@aol.com) Subject: Exit Permit Date: 7/5/97 5:08 PM I like your page, of particular interest is the exit permit you call Flyttningsbevis. I have a copy and translation of my families exit permit from Jan 1865. It was all handwritten. You can view it at my page: http://members.aol.com/Ashoag205/exitpermit.htm I was told that it was a "Flyttningsintyg". Do you have an idea if this term may also be correct?? Some of the information from the exit permit differs for the dates of birth as compared to the church parish records. I'm not sure which ones to believe to be correct as we are talking a span of a few days only. I'll be back to see your page frequently as I cannot digets so much all at one time. Allen S. From: Lashley Frederick Herman Haggman Subject: Wonderful Evening At Your Page Date: 4/26/97 2:21 AM Beautiful, Beautiful. What a joy you must experience in building your project. We found you by that simple but time consuming process of "surfing" Swedish Pages. Reason? My father's parents decided, it seems, to cut all language, family and cultural ties when they emigrated from Sweden to Canada, as singles, circa 1881-1883. The name Herman comes from my grandfather, Herman Haggman. He may have been born in Finland. His wife, Augusta Louisa Carlson may have been born in Morrup, Sweden. I am now actively searching for my Swedish Roots. At age 75 there may not be much time. Your work is inspiring. Keep it up and have fun. Will let you in on our web page now under construction. Thank-you for a great visit. Lashley Haggman.

From: Göran Sundholm Subject: Complementary data Date: 3/9/97 11:03 AM Greetings I have compiled the "Sundholm Family Tree" (Swedish branch). My brother, Bo, is living with Carin Jacquette Gyllenhaal (born March 16, 1951 in Stockholm, Sweden). Would you be interetsed in such data? From: hrmn@dataphone.se (Herman Gyllenhaal) Subject: "The Old Country" Date: Sunday, February 16, 1997 4:30 AM If you are interested in how the Old Country is doing you might have visited the site "Visit the Kingdom of Sweden" on the address , where it is hidden under the somewhat insignificantly-looking link called "useful links", or you might have reached it in some other way. Then you surely discovered that this seemingly official page consisted of a lot of links of all kinds. What bothered me when I tried those links was that you could not use the "back"-function, when you wanted to go to some of the other links. I complained to the Swedish Institute about this. They told me that this is a temparary fault, which will be corrected in a month or so. It so happens that also in a month's time that there will be released a beta-version of a new CD-ROM about the Country of Sweden. That one is also administred by the Swedish Institute with a lot of pics and sounds and even videoclips. It is sponsored by a lot of Swedish companies. Hopefully there will also be something about Swedish genealogy. I will tell you later, as I have just got a CD-ROM-reader and will get a copy of the beta-version. Herman G.

It seems he was poisoned by tainted polar bear meat. I was also looking for Alsing, Andersson, Niclasson, Benctdfoyyrt, Dahlman, Faxelius-Anundi, Faxell, Gucmundi, etc.

I am a professor of Engineering Graphics at Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, USA. I have recently been researching my family tree largely because of the internet connections I have made. In surfing the net, I ran across this page and noticed a firm connection between my tree and that published here. The connection is Gustava Eleonora Rudbeck, b. 26 March 1767, d. 25 June 1828. I have an ancestor with the same name and dates. I have information on the ancestors of Gustava back to (and beyond) Johannes Rudbeckius (bishop of Västeras, chaplin to Gustavus Adolphus, etc.) I am using the Family Tree Maker program (version 2, soon to be upgraded to 3). I would be happy to send a copy of my database to anyone interested in making this connection and sharing info. Tack, Len

The city of Stockholm is indicated by the stamp portraying the patron of the capital, S:t Erik, a legendary medeival swedish King, who is said to have christned Finland. The hallmarking of gold silver and tin was controlled by the "Kontrollverket" in Stockholm, set up by the state in 1752 which had its branch offices around the country.

I notice that it is a fairly "recent" addition in your time-line, but you don't give a place/site. My wife is descended from SKOGMANs; I have a family history for that name which dates back to the early 1700's. Latest SKOGMANs in the history were from Nossenmarken. As far as surnames go, the name SKOGMAN (man of the forest) is not that old or that common. My research hints that everyone with that surname IS descended from one family in early 18th century Sweden. Interesting tie-in, no? Sincerely, C. Berndt

Date: Mon, 22 Jul 96 18:57:49 From: ian@smultron.com (Ian Hamilton) Subject: Genealogy/Heraldry Hello - thank you for your nice home page. I am chairman of the Swedish Genealogical Society (GF) and maybe we could help you with some Swedish parts of your project. One critical comment of heraldry: please use "left" and "right" in the heraldic fashion or at least comment on it if you choose to do otherwise. The directions should always be noted as seen from the shield holder's point of view. The name Haal is probably "hard" (rd pronounced like a thick l) in the sense "hard against weapons", invulnerable. I think it was a typical soldier's name even as early as the beginning of the 17th cty. Of course this is only a guess. Your comments on the right to coats of arms may be debated; many non-noble families had coats of arms (but without the nobility marks like crowns and helmets) and this was fully accepted. But there is a lot of humbug in this field... Best regards Ian (Count Hamilton)

Needless to say, as a Gyllenhaal, it's an utter treasure trove of interesting material. As I mentioned in the message earlier today, I'll send along material shortly. I certainly want to commend you on all the work that you've done. It's a fascinating project.

My family comes from the North Frisian island Foehr, which used to be Danish, and for that reason I check soc.genealogy.nordic periodically and was delighted to find reference to your homepage. Good luck and success!
Date: Fri, 5 Jul 96 12:00:34 EDT From: vsharp@chmc.org (Ginny Sharp Sommarstrom) Subject: Great site! Nice job. Enjoyed browsing your site. However, without some idea of WHERE all these folks lived (Swedish county, US state), I can't tell if there's any chance of finding a link between our lines. Virtually all of my husband's Swedish line--Grund family--was from Gavleborg and Vasternorrlands counties. When did the first Gyllenhaal emigrate to the US? Where did they settle? Maybe it's just because I'm a geographer by training, but I do seem to be more attuned to location than time!
